YOUR INFORMATION, EXPLAINED

Privacy &
your data.

Updated October 19, 2026. This page covers two things: the BeYu app, which is in private testing on Android, and this website, which is an independently created concept for BeYu with its own waitlist. There are no ads in either, and nothing about you is sold.

The BeYu app

Everything below describes what the app holds about you and every place it sends it, as the app works today. Where a feature isn’t switched on yet, this page says so rather than describing it as if it were.

Your account

On Android you sign in with Google, or with your email address and a six-digit code. Supabase runs sign-in for BeYu. From a sign-in we copy your name onto your profile; your email address is not on your profile. Supabase keeps the details your sign-in provider sent (for Google: its account id for you, whether your address is verified, your name and, when Google sends one, the address of your profile picture) beside your account, where no other member can see them. For security, a log of sign-ins is kept, including the network address each came from.

Your profile

Your handle, display name, photo, bio and city are your public face to other signed-in members. There is no public member directory. Your profile photo is served from a public address, so anyone with that exact link can open the image.

Your date of birth is kept separately, where only you can read it: not other members, not administrators. Others can only learn that you passed the 18-and-over check.

The optional notes for meeting people on your profile (headline, work, school, what you’re looking for, what you can offer) are visible only to you. Nothing reads them on its own; they’re used only if you copy them into a night’s networking note and send it.

Your nights on your profile

Members can see the nights you hosted. The nights you went to stay private unless you turn on “Show the nights I went to on my profile”, which is off until you choose it, and you can keep any single night off your profile even when it’s on.

Your starting answers

The starting questions can be a conversation with an AI model: what you write there is sent to Anthropic to be turned into structured answers, such as the kinds of nights you want, who you want them with, your availability, what you like to spend and what to avoid. Only you can read those answers. You can see and change them under Memory on your profile, or go through all ten questions again. Their job is deciding which nights to show you: when the app ranks events, your answers are sent to Anthropic with the candidate events, with any other person’s name removed first. What you tap, dismiss, RSVP to and check into also shapes your ranking, and that signal is yours alone.

Talking to Sami

Sami is the app’s guide. What you type to Sami goes to Anthropic to choose among nights the app is already allowed to show you: the model picks from a numbered shortlist fetched with your own permissions, so it never sees an event you couldn’t. Before any stored text of yours reaches the model, other people’s names, handles, numbers and places are removed. What you type in the moment is sent as you wrote it, so what you tell Sami is up to you. BeYu keeps no recording and no transcript of the conversation.

Speaking to Sami isn’t switched on yet. Before it is, this page will name the services that would handle your voice.

Meeting people, if you ask to

Sami can suggest people to meet at a night, but only among members who chose to take part. You opt in one night at a time, never by default, by writing a short note about yourself for that night. That note is the only thing used: never your bio, your starting answers or anything you wrote for another purpose.

When another member going to the same night asks Sami who to meet, your note may be one of the notes the model reads. It’s sent to Anthropic with names, handles, numbers and places removed, and with nothing that says it’s yours. If you’re suggested, the other member sees your note on a card with no name, face or profile. Either of you can ask to be introduced. Your name, photo and profile are shared only if you both say yes. Saying “Not now” tells nobody. Introductions happen only before the night starts, and each member can ask for up to three per night.

Removing your note opts you out at once; nothing keeps a copy, and the night ending closes it either way. If you never opt in, there is no record you were asked.

What you post and write

Photos you post appear on the event page you posted them to, for the people that page already admits. Comments carry your name on the page where you wrote them. A direct message is between the two of you; administrators have no read access to messages.

When you answer “How was it?” about a night you went to, your answers are saved as you wrote them and the host of that night reads them with your name on them. The host and you are the only people who can read them.

Your contacts

The app reads your address book only when you ask it to. Picking friends to invite stays on your phone, and BeYu never messages anyone on your behalf. To find which contacts are already members, each contact’s email address is turned into a one-way code (a hash) on your phone and only those codes are sent. They’re compared once and then discarded, never stored. Matches are shown only to you. The only record kept is that you asked: your member id, how many codes, and when.

Camera, photos and notifications

The app asks for your camera only to scan check-in codes at a night, and for your photo library when you choose a picture for your profile, a night or a post. If you allow notifications, BeYu stores the delivery token Expo issues for your device (not your device’s own identifier), and Expo carries the messages. Signing out retires the token, and deleting your account deletes it. The app never reads your location.

Events and tickets

Event listings come to BeYu from Ticketmaster and other public sources. That data is about events, and nothing about you is sent to fetch it. When you open an outside event’s tickets, you leave for the seller with nothing about you in the link, and BeYu never learns whether you bought.

Not switched on yet

Paid membership and hosts’ venue search are not active in the app today. When either is switched on, this page will say first which services handle the information involved.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app under Account settings. Your photos and profile picture are removed, then your profile, date of birth, starting answers, notes, posts, RSVPs and attendance, friendships and blocks, direct message threads, notification tokens, feedback and the account itself.

A few things are kept, and you should know which. Comments that other people replied to stay without your name, so their conversation doesn’t collapse. Past nights you hosted stay up for the people who were there, without your name; nights that hadn’t started are cancelled. Notifications already delivered to other members keep the name they were sent with. Photos other members posted that include you belong to them; report “It’s a photo of me” on the photo to have it taken down. The sign-in service keeps its own log of sign-ins (time, the email used and the network address), which only administrators can read. Aggregate counts keep your contribution with no way back to you.

No ads, no sale, no tracking

There are no ads in the app, and we don’t sell your data to anyone. There are no ad SDKs, third-party analytics or tracking pixels. What the app counts for itself is nine kinds of moment, and only these: opening the app, signing in, opening a tab, opening an event, tapping RSVP, opening Chat, sending Sami a message, and a host starting or publishing a night. No free text, handle or message can be passed with them.

Who handles app data

Supabase runs the database and sign-in. Google confirms who you are when you sign in with Google. Anthropic provides the model behind the starting questions and Sami; it receives what you write to Sami, your starting answers with other people’s names removed and, only if you opt in at a night, your note for that night, unattributed. Expo delivers notifications. Ticketmaster provides event listings and learns nothing about you.

This website

This is an independently created website concept for BeYu. The operator of this website receives submissions. This form does not submit to BeYu’s original Google Form, and submitting does not guarantee access to an app.

What you choose to share

The waitlist collects your email address, first name, city, whether you attend or host events, phone type, topics and feature interests for early-access planning. Hosts also provide an organization or community. Additional ideas and marketing email updates are optional. Only people who opt in should receive marketing updates.

A submission also includes which signup button you used, the labels of the partner or campaign link that brought you here (such as a partner’s code), the app feature you were viewing, and any recorded-example event choices you save in the Sami walkthrough. If you arrive through such a link, this browser remembers its labels for 30 days, in local storage rather than a cookie, so signing up from another page or on a later visit still credits it; a newer link replaces them. We don’t store your email in browser storage. We don’t run advertising trackers. We count visits with Umami, as described under “Visitor statistics” below.

Waitlist answers and email choices

The waitlist requires your email, first name, city, attendee/host choice, phone type, at least one topic and at least one feature interest. Hosts also provide an organization or community. “Something else?” is optional. Since October 22, 2026, saving your seat also means agreeing to emails about BeYu’s early access and launch, as the line under the button says. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to stop at any time. Earlier signups only receive these emails if they ticked the old email box. Waitlist submissions are stored by Netlify for the website operator to review.

Where submissions go

On a correctly configured Netlify deployment, submissions are stored in the website operator’s Netlify Forms account. Netlify provides hosting and spam filtering. Authorized account members can review, export, or delete submissions. If the operator exports responses to Google Sheets, access is restricted to authorized BeYu team accounts for waitlist administration and follow-up. A separate marketing list includes only people who opted into email updates; a waitlist signup without that choice does not authorize marketing. Requests to stop updates or delete information are reviewed manually and must also be applied to exported copies. See Google’s privacy policy. Netlify may process technical information to deliver and protect these services. See Netlify’s privacy policy.

The previews on this site

The app tour displays supplied TestFlight screenshots and a silent recording. The optional Sami walkthrough uses the four actual event suggestions shown in that recording, with their historical dates and times. Its shortlist stays in this page and makes no AI request, booking, RSVP, or message to another person. Saved example choices are included with a waitlist signup only if you choose to submit the form.

Live event listings

When available, the homepage shows upcoming New York events from Ticketmaster’s public Discovery API. This website requests those listings from a small BeYu events service hosted on Netlify (beyu-events-api.netlify.app), so loading them sends nothing about you to Ticketmaster. Event images load from Ticketmaster’s image server, which receives standard technical details such as your IP address. If you follow a listing, you leave this site for Ticketmaster, where its own privacy policy applies.

Professional events in Explore

The Explore chapter shows selected upcoming business events, demos and talks from Startup Grind NYC’s public listings. Our Netlify helper refreshes event information without sending signup details to the organizer. A dated copy is included for offline previews and temporary outages, and the interactive page removes events once their start time has passed. Some artwork is served locally; newly refreshed artwork may load from Cloudinary, which receives standard technical details such as your IP address. Opening an event or calendar link takes you to Startup Grind, where its own privacy policy applies.

Visitor statistics

To learn which parts of the site help people, the home page, the organizer page and the app tour count visits with Umami (umami.is), a privacy-focused analytics service that uses no cookies. It receives the page you’re on, the site or campaign link that brought you, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. It also counts a few actions: opening and completing the signup form (with which button you used, whether you signed up to attend or host, and the partner code of the link that brought you, if any, but never your email or anything else you type), choosing a tour chapter, trying the recorded Sami example, playing the founder video, filtering or opening events. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, nothing is counted, and this privacy page isn’t counted at all. Umami’s privacy policy applies to how it processes this information.

The founder’s pitch video

The app tour includes a YouTube video of BeYu’s founder pitching the app. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. The video then plays from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com), and Google’s privacy policy applies to that playback. Links to the founder’s Instagram and LinkedIn profiles open those sites, which have their own policies.

Ask to stop updates or delete your details

To delete your BeYu app account, use Account settings in the app, as described above. For your waitlist information, or a question about anything on this page, use the form below. The operator reviews requests manually and may need to confirm that the email address belongs to you. A request is not an automatic deletion.
